Do. Or Do Not. There is No Try.

Do. Or do not. There is no try. -- Yoda

Most of the time we've decided on an outcome before taking our first step. Before starting a new relationship, before beginning a weight-loss program, before launching a new product, we take on the 'try.' In the 'try' we are tentative, because we're preoccupied with past pain. In the 'try' we run through all the reasons why we've stalled or stopped in the past, and these become road blocks in the present. Or we speed ahead so quickly in anticipation, that we skip steps, miss the minutiae, and are more likely to careen out of control. In the 'try' we're so busy looking to the past or future, that we miss opportunities in the now. The clues, signs and roadmarks that illuminate each step, teach us what we need to learn and prepare us for what's to come. So next time you set a goal or intention for yourself, recognize when you're taking on the 'try,' when you're reaching too far back or too far forward, and pull yourself into the present moment.

An easy way to do this is to take the first step,

and the next,

and the next.

And before you know it, you'll have sidestepped the try, built confidence, gained momentum, and most importantly, you'll have found your wings. Now fly!
